Fair Trade USA: Open House, Discussion, and Networking – January 27, 2016

Join Fair Trade USA Founder and CEO Paul Rice–one of Haas’ and the world’s most celebrated social entrepreneurs–for an evening of discussion and networking.  Paul and Fair Trade USA’s leaders will detail their relentless efforts to scale the Fair Trade model, expand its impact on the world’s most vulnerable populations and engage us, the consumer, in their efforts.

You’ve seen the coffee and the chocolate on store shelves; now find out what’s next for Fair Trade USA. The East Bay Chapter of the Berkeley-Haas Alumni Network and Paul Rice–one of Haas’ and the world’s most celebrated social entrepreneurs̶–invite you to an evening of networking, learning and conversation at the headquarters of Fair Trade USA.  You’ll get an inside view of Fair Trade USA’s next stage of innovation and engage with the organization’s leaders and other alumni about their efforts.  In addition to Paul Rice, Board Chair and fellow Haas Alum Ron Cordes and senior managers of the organization will speak.

Fair Trade USA strongly reflects the Berkeley-Haas Defining Principles.  Its mission espouses the spirit of Beyond Yourself, and current innovation efforts Question the Status Quo.  Indeed, in 2012, Fair Trade USA made the courageous move to split from the International Fair Trade Organization in order to gain the flexibility to innovate and expand the Fair Trade model.   Since then, they’ve developed programs for factories (with partners including Patagonia, West Elm and others) and fisheries (with placement in Safeway), and more pioneering plans are in place for 2016.  At the same time, consumers are critical to the success of Fair Trade; technology/social media offer countless possibilities for building awareness and engagement.

In the spirit of Students Always, the team at Fair Trade USA welcomes the opportunity to engage with you and learn from your perspectives and insights.
